If I were a boy...

...my name would be Jodie PATRICK Dybing according to the name on my door at the dorm!

Hilarious!  I came home last night to see this up on my door and it made me laugh.  It amuses me so I'm not going to bother correcting them.

So, I'm trying to remember what i've been up to since my last post.  I feel like i've been quite busy, but actually I haven't really.  I was sick for most of last week with a cold that didn't actually turn into a cold, if you know what I mean.  Just that annoying, on the border of being sick, feeling crap, but not too bad.  It's mostly gone now which is good as I've got lots on this week.

On the weekend I had dinner with a bunch of girls on Friday night and met some really cool Japanese girls, Ran and Miyo.  We just had local Korean food and I had Kim Chi Sundubu 김치순두부.  It was sooooo good, spicy and only AUD$4.  Afterwards we went to Sinchon to have a coffee.  We ended up trying two places before we actually found a place to have a coffee.  The first place we went to had private rooms that were too small for our group, and the second place, the room we were in was just kinda quiet and weird, plus they wanted to charge us for the time we were in the room, so we left and went to Mr Beans.

I actually quite like this place, the coffee is good, it's high tide and they roast their own beans.
On Saturday night there was the first get-together of my 'cell group' for the mentors/buddy club.  We met up at 6pm at the front gates of Yonsei and headed out for dinner (we had Andong Jjimdak - it's a spicy chicken and glass noodle dish - its yummy).  It was an interesting evening.  Only 4 students came and there were 5 Korean mentors.  I really like all the mentors, everyone seems nice and cool.  I went with my new friend Yeojin, my Aussie/Korean neighbor from the dorm as we're both in 'Cell 6' and i'm really glad she came too.  After dinner we went to a bar for some makkeolli, a traditional Korean liquor.  It's a bit bitter, but tastes much better when you add in some lemonade.  It's pretty easy to drink and is cheap, and one of the mentors was telling me that a makkeolli hangover is one of the worst kinds of hangovers a person can have.  We only ended up staying for a couple of drinks and then left.  It was an early night.
The next day I just hung out and did some uni work for this week.  In the evening I went and met up with Michael, one of the Korean mentors from my cell group and we went shopping in Myeongdong with his friend Jane, as he wanted to get a winter jacket and I wanted to find Mel a present (still looking Melba, haven't found the right thing yet!).  H&M has opened here and i've never seen a store so busy.  It was madness, just like being in a nightclub, it was that busy.  I didn't buy anything, but I want to go back and have another look, but i'll have to try and go during the week sometime, maybe Friday.

So it's Monday and classes are getting into the swing of it.  I had a one hour class this afternoon and that's it.  The building I have my class in is beautiful and the ground in front of it are really nice, here are some pics I took today...

I've got lots of time on my hands at the moment 'cos language classes haven't started yet, so i'm enjoying sleeping late everyday which is a nice change from having to sleep crazy hours for work, though I forced myself to get up earlier today (9.30am), hahahaha.  I went and met up with Yeojin for lunch and we signed up to go on a trip this coming weekend being run by the Global Lounge at Yonsei.  There's a snow crab festival on the other side of Korea and the trip is only W70,000 (AUD$70) for the entire weekend.  It includes, transport, accom, lunch, dinner, breakfast, crab fishing and a party.  It should be really good, i'm looking forward to it.  I'll try and take lots of photos as i've been a bit slack this last week.

Tonight I have an orientation for a language exchange program that I signed up for.  We meet our language buddy and then get given a plan on how to do a language exchange properly.  I hope I get a good buddy!  Time will soon tell.  Tomorrow I have another orientation for free Korean 'classes' that are going to be given by Korean students in the global lounge.  I've heard it's more a casual get together, and a good way to meet Korean students, so it should be interesting.

Well, that's about it I think.  I spoke to my parents on Skype yesterday and found out that my car was damaged by the giant hail storm that hit Melbourne on Saturday, so i'm going to have to try and deal with my insurance company tomorrow which i'm sure will keep me busy.  Can't wait.  On a brighter note, I got to see the dog 'Jess' (aka 'Nugget') when I spoke to my family.  I really miss having animals around, it's funny how you get so used to having pets, that it's weird when their not around.

  1. I wonder if you're the 'Patrick' in my life after all these years.
I miss you Jodie so much. Although we didn't see each other day, I miss calling you and leaving a message on your message bank!

  2. Oh Melba, you sound sad! We'll see each other soon, don't fret my dear. I was thinking that we should also do a visit to Japan together this year, while you're in the area. I was even thinking, if you have August free to travel, maybe we should meet then as I don;t have uni and we can do Summersonic Music fest in Osaka or Tokyo? We can get our buzz on!
    Thoughts? xx

  3. That sounds like a wonderful idea. The buzz on especially. Cool, I will work towards that as a timeframe.
